My work centers on the combination of the visual and the tactile. The sights from my everyday life and my travels inspire me to create one of a kind weavings and dolls. Close-ups and details of nature as well as landscapes and cityscapes influence my designs and patterns. All my weavings are my original design. I enjoy pattern and color and focus on the interplay between structure and color to create my hand woven art. Each doll I make is a one of kind- unique and individually crafted. Inspired by classic European dolls, I create dolls that have minimal facial expressions; the spirit of the creation comes through and develops with the user. I collect fabrics from around the world, from local shops, from recycled clothing, and from my own dye pots. I use diverse skin colors and costumes. My designs stem from researching historic clothing and world cultures, from modern life, and from my imagination. I craft my creations with natural fibers, and strive to create one-of-a-kind aesthetic and functional artistic objects for people of all ages.
Working in my New England studio, all my works are created with the wonderful contribution of my studio assistant (working with me since 1998). Together we develop designs, cut and dye fabrics. and assemble collections of dolls and handwoven artworks. Please contact me with questions or special requests!
